When approached to evaluate this residential space for high-end spatial curation, the initial interior seemed trapped in time, crowded with inherited mid-century furniture, vintage consoles, and decades of family keepsakes passed down from a grandmother. In a standard overhaul, generic approaches would have discarded these pieces for sterile flatpack furniture.

The spatial evaluation recognized the opposite. Situated just steps from the Süreyya Opera House, these relics were never obsolete clutter. Kept as living extensions of Kadıköy’s artistic character, they anchor a tactile interior where analog sound and period design naturally take center stage.

Tactile Interaction: The Living Analog Experience

Rather than staging the residence as a passive, untouchable museum, the curation was centered on tactile residential engagement:

• Refurbishing Mechanical Relics: Forgotten analog machinery was mechanically refurbished to full working order. The living area features a slide-out vinyl turntable integrated into a retro console, an operable vintage reel-to-reel audio recorder, and an iconic mid-century wall-mounted payphone. The layout encourages tactile interaction: dropping the needle on a record, handling period print media, and stepping away from modern digital noise.

• Invisible Modern Infrastructure: Preserving nostalgic soul required zero compromise on contemporary comfort. The apartment underwent a complete overhaul of its electrical grid and plumbing, accompanied by discrete multi-split air conditioning systems, high-speed connectivity, and silent residential amenities tucked seamlessly behind aged timber textures.

Curatorial Balance: Heirloom Curation Meets Contemporary Flow

After separating purely sentimental family archives, key mid-century heirlooms, ranging from classic timber credenzas and serving trolleys to authentic Anatolian woven kilims, were paired with modern linen bedding, vibrant mustard upholstery, and lush indoor greenery. The result is a layered residential atmosphere that honors its domestic lineage while establishing an enduring, art-led interior character.
